TREKKING TO COLCA CANYON - 2 DAYS

This trekking is one of the most visited excursions by the adventure tourists. The difficulty of this excursion is moderated level. The distance of this journey is 226km. The weather is sub-tropical, with lots of sun and cold at night. And a dry environment to Cabanaconde. Semitropical inside the canyon between 26 and 28 °C during the day between December and March. There is rain generally during the afternoon and the night is warm.

Our itinerary:

1st day:

We pick up all passengers at their hotel between 3am and 3:30am in our private transportation towards Chivay (3500m above sea level), then after 4 hours of journey we stop at the control gate to enter to Colca Canyon and have breakfast.

Then, we will continue the trip for one more hour until the next stop which is the viewpoint “Mirador de la Cruz del Condor”, this is where we will remain for one hour to enjoy the flight of the condor and the depth of the canyon. We will continue to Pampas San Miguel and start our walk over 3280m above sea level. After 3 hours and a half of trekking we arrive to the first community called San Juan de Chuccho (2300m above sea level). All along the Colca river, we will visit the surroundings, then we will have lunch and continue the trekking for 1 more hour until we arrive to another community called Cosñihuar (2660m above sea level) we take a break and continue to Sangalle also known as the Oasis located 1160m above sea level where we will enjoy a refreshing bath in the area. We have dinner and spend the night in a bungalows.

2nd day:

We wake up at 5am coordinating with the guide to start the walk in order to arrive to Cabanoconde (3 hours approximately), it is here we will have a good breakfast, and then go to Antahuilque viewpoint, where we will enjoy the fabulous work of agricultural terraces all along the Colca Valley for about 1 hour and half, and then go to Chivay district (3599m above sea level) to go to the Thermo-medicine hot springs of Calera. Here, we will be able to relax few minutes after a long walk. Them after some time, we will go back to Chivay for lunch, finally we return to Arequipa city, arriving at around 18:30 hours. This is how we will end this fascinating adventure.
