PALENTOLOGICAL TOUR OF FOSSILS IN OCUAJE – ICA – 1 DAY

The desert of Ica is a sequence of marine sedimentary, which extends to 348km from the central part of the coast until the southern zone in Arequipa. This great desert was a zone of bays and islands with calm beaches and a low depth, it had a semitropical environment of palms and a great diversity of fauna with adequate conditions to fossilize animals. Currently, there is a desert full of skeleton fossils in the Ocuaje area, this is a district located south from Ica, here we can find; fossils of small whales, giant sharks, long beak dolphins, seals, penguins, and even marine crocodiles that habited in the bays on the third and fourth era. This is one of the best places in the world to find marine fossils of the Cenozoic era which is still in good conditions. We invite you to enjoy it.

Program Description

Previous coordination, we bring you from the hotel and we will start the journey with a transfer to the district of Ocuaje in a short trip of 45 minutes, crossing the desert to enjoy all of the savage strength of our desert. The journey to the fossil sites is the biggest in America and it takes 4 hours to cover it. We will see prehistoric marine animals that date from 8 to 20 million years of age (whale fossils, shark teeth, seashell fossils). After some hours of visiting we will return to Ica leaving you in your hotel.
